Types of bread

Bread is a staple food in most European countries, where as for others in Eastern Asia, the staple is rice. Most forms of bread are made with wheat and raised with yeast, before being baked in an oven. The gluten content in common wheat makes it the most popular form of grain to be used in bread-making, although breads from other grains are often used too. Breads from other types of wheat can also be used too. Bread made from spelt is often eaten in Germany. And in Egypt, there is a history of emmer bread in the country.

White bread is made with flour produced from the central core of the grain, whereas brown bread is made from a flour that comprises a small amount of bran also. Brown bread can also be used to describe white bread that has been colored to give it the appearance of being brown. Whole meal bread is made up of the whole of the wheat grain, and as such contains a higher quantity of bran. Wheat germ can be added to bread to create wheat germ bread and gives it an added flavor, while wholegrain bread is made from whole grains and is the same as white bread, but with added whole grains, which increases its fiber content. There are many different types of bread, made from varying grains and consistencies. Quick bread refers to bread that’s been leavened with baking soda and the addition of acid and alkaline. Some examples of quick breads include pancakes and banana bread.
